Kidloland Kids App >> Review

Fun little kids app...

I've shared my views on kids and screen time on the blog before here, but in short I think it's a great thing in small doses. Technology is going to be a huge part of our kids future so it makes a lot of sense for them to be confident with it. There is definitely a good place for screen time in our kids lives and apart from it being educational, they all need a little down time sometimes and this is a quick, simple solution.

Alf loves his tablet and apps at 5 and his little sister at just 2 also likes to have a little play when she gets chance. We are always on the look out for new apps and although we usually look for the free ones, we do occasionally invest in ones that are particularly good or advantageous to their learning.

We were asked to review kids app Kidloland on the blog, with the help of the kids and after seeing lots of good reviews for this app we were keen to get started. The app itself can be found on both the Amazon App store, Google Play store and iOS. We are on Android so downloaded the app with our special trial code and were ready to get started.

First Impressions

My first impression was just how vast the selection of games was on this app! There are hundreds of things to get stuck into with everything being clear, bright and colourful to appeal to the little ones. There seemed to be an awful lot on offer and knowing the attention span of my two at times, this was definitely a good thing.

Some of the animation looks a little basic, but I don't think this matters in the slightest for kids and it makes it very easy for them to understand what to do.

Here's just a few things the app has to offer in terms of learning;

  • Colours
  • Numbers
  • Dot To Dot
  • Nursery Rhymes
  • Picture matching
  • Jigsaws
  • Shapes
  • Stories
  • Games
  • Vehicles
  • Animals

The app really is fun packed with each mini game or selection downloading in seconds. The app is aimed at 0-5 years and looked perfect for pre-schoolers.

Thoughts

This app is perfect for Soph at 2.5 years, she's just getting to grips with using the tablet, loves nursery rhymes and really feels happy with herself when she is able to play a game well. Soph is used to having turns on Alf's apps which are often far too advanced for her and she loses interest quickly. With Kidloland though, Soph was able to enjoy herself with a selection of games and activities which were great for her age and to see her through to reception. This is a lovely app for pre-schoolers and gives them a great introduction to colours and numbers, putting her screen time to good use.

For Alf, the app was a little basic in parts. He did enjoy it for a while and liked the dot to dot games best of all, but for him they weren't hard enough so he soon lost a little interest. Alf is 6 later this year though, so slightly over the intended age anyway. Go back a year though and I know for a fact he would have adored this app, especially with so much on there to explore.

All in all, I think this app is pretty good, particularly for pre-schoolers, though they may need a little help to read instructions and download the games initially. There is lots to choose from, it certainly appeals to the kids too! I love that I can sit the kids with this app and know they won't stumble across anything unsuitable like they might on YouTube, or accidentally click on things to buy which is a worry with some other apps. There is so much to choose from whatever mood they are in, so this is a great all-rounder.
