Healthy Mama - Collaborative Post
Summer is coming and we will all hopefully be able to enjoy more time socialising – giving us more of a reason to smile! As such, you might want to pay more attention to your teeth than normal, especially if, like me, you've spent much of lock down eating rubbish and neglecting yourself! Here are just some of the ways you can improve the health of your teeth.
Drink Water Instead of Sugary Drinks
We have all been indulging in more sugary treats than we would normally during lockdown – and some of us might be partaking in extra sugary drinks for some energy to get us through the day. The only thing is, sugary drinks can be really bad for your teeth, and without a proper dental routine, damage can happen. Try and make it a habit to drink lots of water instead of sugary drinks, as not only will this result in healthier teeth – it also has other health benefits too.
Don’t Forget to Floss
We may all remember to brush our teeth twice a day, but we are much more likely to forget to floss – or not do it as often as we should. There is lots of food that can get stuck between your teeth such as broccoli or seeded fruit and often simply brushing won’t get them out. Flossing should reduce plaque by stimulating the gums. There can be some challenges with flossing for some, particularly kids and teenagers – or adults with arthritis but don’t give up. When you purchase ready to use floss from the store – that should make life easier and if you can get into a routine with it, it does get easier and makes a huge difference.
Eat Crunchy Fruit and Vegetables
Another bad habit we could all be accused of is eating ready meals as they are much more convenient. The reality is, they are often very bad for your teeth. Fresh and crunchy fruit and vegetables typically contain high fibre which has additional health benefits – as well as being better for your teeth.
Get Clear Braces for any Misalignment
Although braces may not improve the overall healthiness of your teeth – they can make your smile look much better if there is any misalignment. People often think that braces are a hassle, but there are more options these days. Clear braces are much more discreet than metal braces, and they aren’t as expensive as you may think. They also don’t have any eating or drinking restrictions, which means you don’t need to worry about enjoying your favourite foods. See your Dentist Regularly
A dentist appointment isn’t one we tend to enjoy – so often is at the bottom of the priority list. Unfortunately, when we miss appointments, we aren’t getting our teeth as regularly as we should in order to maintain their healthiness. You should make sure that you visit your dentist at least twice a year, and also go to any hygienist appointments they recommend.
