Plan your space before you go and buy items you may not need
Your home is where you can be yourself, relax and spend time with the people you love - it's a space that needs to reflect who you are and what you want from home. However, when you are getting ready to move into your new house, you have to remember that what you think you may need and what you actually need to kit it out are two very separate things.
There is a lot to consider when you first move into a new home, and that is why we advise planning before you go on that long-awaited shopping spree. We have all been out and bought products or items and later found that actually the item wasn't needed, and we have wasted our money. Avoid this by making a list of the things you will need when you first move in. Once you have spent some time in your new home, take a look at this list of items every home needs.
Essential items you will need ready to move into your new home
Go through each room in your house. Make a list of what you will need in that room, and try to cover everything before you get carried away with the next space. For example, in your bathroom, you may need a bath or shower mat, a toilet roll holder and a toilet brush, somewhere to hang your towels and a soap dish. But do all those things need to be bought now, or can you make do with the basics until you truly understand your space and the design style you are trying to portray?
Essential things you will need to buy straight away:
Bedroom - it's common sense that you are going to need a comfortable place to sleep and somewhere to hang your clothes. A bed and wardrobe should be on your list of things to buy!
Living room - somewhere to sit and relax after you have been moving boxes around all day is a necessity! Get yourself a great sofa but don't worry too much about the detail in your living room until you have lived in the space for a while.
Kitchen - if your home doesn't come with white goods, you will need a fridge freezer and washing machine to store your food and clean your clothes! If you are planning to have a table in your kitchen, it may also be worth purchasing one ahead of time, so you aren't eating off your knees.
Bathroom - towels! Much of the bathroom accessories we see are just that - an accessory that is not an essential to buy straight away. One thing you will need, however, is a set of towels so you can get dry after a bath or shower!
Window coverings - you will want some privacy from nosy neighbours when you first move into your property, so get your windows measured up and search for blinds Aylesbury or purchase matching curtains to protect your home and support your privacy.
The things that can wait until you are settled in
Your home should be a sanctuary that you come back to after a long day and immediately relax. You need to know what is going to work in your space and what could leave it feeling cluttered. The only way to understand your home and really find the products that complement the space is by living there and finding out what you could really do with purchasing! For that reason, we suggest waiting until you know your house better before choosing accessories and a design style that suits you.
