Home Style || The Indesit Extra Baby Care Dishwasher Review #DoItTogether

Buying our first dishwasher was one of the most life changing purchases for us. Having battled with piles of dirty dishes for years, we finally invested in a second hand slim line dishwasher and instantly it made a huge dent in our home chores, I couldn't be without one now.

We were recently given the opportunity to review a new dishwasher from Indesit, the DFP 27T96 Z eXtra Baby Care Dishwasher in white as part our our new kitchen project which is currently in full swing. Indesit are currently running a campaign to get the whole family involved in house hold chores and having a new dishwasher for the kids to help load was just what we needed to get them more involved and actively helping around the house. The #DoItTogether campaign is a great way for us all to spread the chores as it's so easy to get into the habit of these jobs falling on one person and it can be so draining. We all eat, we all sleep, lounge and play in our home, so there's absolutely no reason why the chores should just fall on one or both adults. You can read more about the campaign by clicking here and maybe get even more ideas for chore sharing in your home. Our kitchen may be far from finished, but having a great dishwasher to fit our needs is a great start and encouraging the kids to help with the house could not have come at a better time.

About the Indesit DFP 27T96 Z Extra Baby Care Dishwasher

This is a full size dishwasher in white to match our other appliances with some added features making it the perfect family dishwasher. The 'baby care' in the name comes from the fact that this machine has a special hygienic baby care cycle that removes 99.999% of bacteria, ideal for baby bottles and things like teethers and dummies to make them squeaky clean and safe for little ones to handle (for total sterilisation of your baby items, Indesit recommends an additional clean using a sterile solution). As well as the specific setting, there's a 'Baby zoo' included which is a separate unit that slots inside, decorated with colourful animals and space for bottles, toys, cups and even a small cutlery basket. There are lots of great features making this a really good eco and family friendly choice for your kitchen, so here's a bit more on this Indesit dishwasher;

  • Adjustable racking
  • Cutlery basket
  • Baby zoo basket
  • Delay timer
  • Half load setting
  • Room for 14 place settings
  • A++ Energy class
  • Extra hygienic

Taking delivery

Our dishwasher arrived by truck and we were given a three hour window for delivery the night before to ensure we wouldn't miss it. The machine was wheeled straight into our kitchen and fitted through our standard and pretty narrow double glazed front door with no issues whatsoever. We were offered the chance to have the dishwasher unpacked with all packaging taken away, but opted to keep it as it was to keep it safe and clean prior to installation. The machine is really well packed with polystyrene surround, plastic wrapping to keep it clean and dust free and wooden batons to keep everything in place for a safe transit. It's worth clearing a space to unpack and prep your machine as they are quite big and it's best to check everything is as it should be before moving into place and installing.

It was really easy to unwrap alone, but did require two of us to move into place once it was out the wrapping. It's very easy to move around whilst still in it's wrapping though and we had absolutely no issues with delivery, with the machine being in perfect condition and delivery guys super helpful and friendly. Luckily for me, Adam's really good with things like this and with everything needed to install already included, we were good to go.

Our thoughts on the Indesit DFP 27T96 Z Extra Baby Care Dishwasher

Kids & Babies - As we don't have small babies any more, this is perfect still for Soph's smaller cutlery, cups and small toys that need a clean up. Having her own special 'place' to put her dirty things means she is much more willing to help with the dishwasher (Alf too!) and since having this in our kitchen she has actually helped and seems excited to put her things away to clean instead of leaving around the house. It's amazing what a few plastic animals can do! It's worth noting though, that Indesit do recommend a further rinse with a sterilising solution to ensure total sterilisation.

Kids love helping and sometimes it feels easier to do it yourself, but having straightforward things like this just for them obviously makes it far more appealing. Even if you didn't have kids, there's always things we want to be free of bacteria such as drinks bottles and this tray is so useful for any extra cutlery or things like blender parts that need a safe place to sit while they get washed.

Family - This dishwasher is packed with space, with room for 14 place settings we can pretty much wash everything we own at once! I love that we have the option of a half load setting for quieter kitchen days and plenty of space for larger items. We also have the option to flatten racks to wash much larger items which has always been an issue with our old one, as well as being able to fully take out the top drawer for very large items. Being able to wash big BBQ grills, pizza trays and even our giant pizza plates means we no longer have washing up hanging around the sink as it can all go in now with no issues.

The interior of our dishwasher is all stainless steel with space to add salts, dish washer tabs and liquid. As well as the fold down racks for large spaces, you can fit the cutlery basket pretty much anywhere which is really handy when playing dishwasher Tetris.

Verdict

This dishwasher is really clean looking and fits into the kitchen well without being an eye sore (like our washing machine!) we are yet to have our kitchen fully installed, but with our new modern units this will fit in nicely without standing out in a bad way.

Super simple to use, this machine has a classic dial to choose your settings and is pretty fool proof and very easy to choose settings and run cycles. I love that we can fit so much in, I love that the kids can help and I love that we no longer have anything laying around the sink waiting to be washed.

Everything has come out sparkly clean and we've had no issues whatsoever while using this Indesit machine and I think it's great for families of any size and I only wish we had it when the babies were smaller, though it is a great machine for anyone, especially given the half cycle option and bags of space. If you hate washing up or need a dishwasher upgrade, this would be a great investment and the price is great for all it has to offer. The filter just screws out really easily too, so you can clean any left over food or debris caught in the washer.

I love how simple this machine is, with a big clear dial and list of settings, no tricky buttons to master or awkward compartments. I always think the simpler things are, the less there is to go wrong and I'm sure that will be the case here. It's easy to use the delay or half setting and it would be lovely having this kind of assurance that your baby bits are clean.

This is a great start to getting the family involved in the chores and perfect too if you have babies or small children at home to make extra sure things are germ free. If you have a small load or need things clean quickly, there's the half load or quick wash setting, as well as the option to make more space inside and delay the wash to start once you're asleep or a more suitable time.

In general, this feels like a sturdy bit of kit. Everything feel solid, well made, great quality and not at all rattly or cheap like some other models we've viewed. Everything is straightforward, it's not over engineered and it just does exactly what you want it to, with ease. The eXtra range from Indesit is designed to make life easier, giving you more time and space with your family. You can read more about this Indesit Dishwasher by clicking right here.
