Mama Style || Alternative Summer Look

I love summer, I love sunshine but I pretty much hate 99% of summer clothing. Perhaps if I had a body I was happier to show off or didn't like a more alternative style then things may be easier, but I find it a real struggle in summer to put outfits together that I feel comfortable in.

Comfort isn't just being able to sit down, not sweat your bits off or breathe easily, it's also about feeling you look like 'you', that your outfit reflects your tastes and style and makes you smile when you get dressed. I think being more alternative with your style can be hard at the best of times, but mostly in summer. Add being plus sized to the mix and you have yourself the perfect combo for awkward dressing, when the last thing you want to do in this summer heat is to try on endless outfits to find something that works for you.

I thought I'd put something together that's summery and feminine, but can be dressed up or down and even layered to fit your body shape but still with a slightly alternative twist. Summer is all floaty and florals and some days I love that, but others I want to return to my dark wintery tones and cover up a little more. This is a perfect summer look for me, keeping my pale vampire like skin covered, whilst keeping cool and reflecting my tastes a little at the same time.

If you're happy with a strappy dress, this denim basic will see you through summer, it's simple, flattering and can be dressed up and down so easily. If like me you prefer to cover up a little, there's no reason you can't wear teeshirts under your strappy summer dresses which can sometimes give you the boost you need to embrace some of the summer fashions.

Adding little touches like this vintage style bag, studs on your sliders or a classic retro feel belt can just add that touch of personality, whilst keeping summery and not over heated. Black always seems to be a no no colour for summer, but for some of us it's just our happy place so finding a way to make it work is pretty essential.

Hats are one thing that can be really tricky too, but if you find one that doesn't make you feel like a prized lamp, you're onto a winner. If the rest of your outfit is totally you, then you can afford to go a bit more regular with your hat, finding something practical but fitting with your outfit like this classic.

Do you struggle with choosing the right outfit in the sunshine?
