Mama Style || Denim V Work

*Collaborative post with Trilogy Stores

Generally work wear is becoming less formal, but we usually have to look reasonably smart still, whilst feeling confident and comfortable as we work. Wearing denim in your daily job can be tricky to get right, but it isn't impossible and if styled correctly can look smart whilst making you feel good in some well fitting jeans. This post is in collaboration with Trilogy stores, premium denim retailers of straight cut jeans for women, who have some great tips for doing just this;

Styling your jeans

If you're yet to join the world of denim in the workplace or are unsure as to how it will go down, then it's best to opt for a safe bet like clean black denim. You could tuck in a beautiful blouse or top in a patterned print to distract from the jeans, which can often actually look far smarter than regular boring black work trousers. High waisted jeans elongate your legs and can be easily paired with your favourite flats or heels for a more personalised look. This also means having less in your wardrobe as you can equally wear these out of work, win win!

Another look that's really popular are the culottes, which can easily be adapted for work wear if you opt for a dark indigo or black shade. Again, paired with a smart top, an over sized jacket and some banging patterned flats, this look can easily take you from the desk to the pub after work, feeling comfortable and on trend, whilst being smart enough for the working day.

In summer, a capri or cropped style jean can be paired with a smart cami or blouse in bright colours to brighten your day or soft pastels for a dash of subtle colour which compliment denim really well. Even classic skinny jeans don't have to look overly casual, add a smart belt, shirt and blazer to take your jeans from casual to office sassy, showing your personality whilst still reflecting the professionalism needed in the work place. If you're feeling brave, white jeans can be a winner too. Much like the black, these can look super smart when paired with a suitable top, just pick a slim leg option to keep the slick look alive.

Styling your denim skirt

Skirts are popular office wear for women too, with pencil skirts and classic A line designs, they can make us feel really feminine and are easy to look smart in. For a cooler look, opt for a dark denim skirt instead of the usual, but avoid anything too short as well as stone washed and light blue denims as these can look a little too casual.

Pair your skirt with a patterned blouse to add a splash of your personality and accessorise with a contrasting belt, your favourite shoes and a blazer or cardigan for extra layers. You could even pair your skirt with a body suit underneath to avoid having to tuck tops in, a work worthy cami or in a more casual setting, a sweatshirt or knitwear. Skirts look great with ankle boots too, but can really be worn with flats, heels or anything that will look the part and feel good throughout the day.

There are lots of ways to make your denims work for you and there's no reason they can't be enjoyed at your desk too. There are so many options now, with denim dresses and shirts that could equally be styled for work, just make sure there isn't a 'no denim' policy in place, but if not it's likely nobody will even notice, except to say that you look great or more confident. Denim is great to accessorise with too, it's like a blank canvas starting point that goes so well with bright colours, patterns and bold jewellery, so have fun with it and give it a try.
