A Woody Wet Weekend - Biker Days

On the rare occasion I get a Saturday completely off my day job (part time but you know what I mean) it really makes me appreciate the weekend as well as the extra family time. I don't mind my job and needs must right now financially, but I hate the hit it has on our family and the fact it has taken so many hours of precious family time away. This weekend we headed out for an early walk in the woods, in the rain, armed with the full mental parental wet weather kit for us both, the kids, the dog and their bikes. The kids bikes, not the dogs - her's was at home.

I actually quite like being out walking in the rain, once you give up on looking vaguely human and embrace the red nose, it's all good in the wood. The best thing about rainy days is that 95% of parents don't take their kids out in it (sucks for the kids but good for us) so you get most of the park to yourself and lots of untouched super splashy puddles to empty and lots of room to run, play, release the hound and burn off some energy.

The kids had a great time and I loved taking pictures of them both - capturing that bit of magic that lights up their little faces when they see and feel the mud splashing around.

Baby S met the roundabout for the first time and enjoyed going through deep puddles at speed making little waves. It won't be long and she will be pedalling through on her own which I know she will love even more. A had the most amazing time after his bike ride jumping and splashing in puddles. He was soaked through to the bone with a mouthful of mud and wellies full of water - a pretty perfect end to a walk for a boysterous four year old I think.

I love days like this and I can't wait until the next one.
