My biggest downfall when it comes to eating is my evening snacking; so I am always on the lookout for a healthier alternative to the normal run of the mill potato crisps and popcorn. I struggle to find savoury snacks that are healthy, but still as tasty as my favourite crisps, so when I was asked to try out the new range of 'Yushoi Snapea Rice Sticks' from Calbee UK, I couldn't wait for them to arrive.
I had no idea what to expect from these snacks. All I knew was that they contained green peas and rice and came in a range of flavours. I love trying new foods and mixing things up keeps things exciting, which definitely helps when you are trying to lose weight. These snacks come in a range of four flavours; Smoked Salt & Szechuan Pepper, Sweet Chilli & Lemon, Soy & Balsamic Vinegar and Lightly Salted. I must say I loved every flavour, but my favourite was definitely the Soy & Balsamic Vinegar. The texture of these if I had to describe it, is similar to those thick maize salt and vinegar sticks that we are used to here in the UK and, with every pack being under 100 calories, I was surprised at how generous the portion size was in a packet. There was a good amount of sticks, a substantial and filling snack that truly satisfys your savoury cravings.
As well as being tasty and filling, I was really pleased to see that these provide a good source of protein and fibre (for this kind of snack anyway), as well as being low calorie and oven baked. These are also dairy and nut free, and are suitable for vegans and vegetarians. Snapea rice sticks have been developed with leading nutritionists, food technologists and health experts to ensure they encourage healthy habits and choices, whilst containing no nasties.
Unfortunately for me, both my kids really liked these too - which meant sharing. It's good to share, but not when you're a grown up! In terms of low calorie or 'diet' savoury snack options, I'd say that these are now one of my absolute favourites and I will be buying them again. A huge double thumbs up from all of us.
