Home Style || Finding The Perfect Occasional Chair For A Modern Space

Occasional chairs are a bit of an old fashioned idea, you see them in stately homes, often in bedrooms and the name simply means - a chair that is used occasionally.

Now though, you tend to see occasional chairs making a real focal point in a room, perhaps adding a burst of colour or an extra layer of texture to a modern space. For this reason, they are also referred to as an accent chair, accentuating a colour or area of the room, whilst also providing you with a comfortable space to sit on from time to time.

One problem in our old kitchen is that there was never anywhere nice to sit. We had a dining table that wasn't always easily accessible with hard wooden chairs, but nowhere to sit with a drink and look to the garden or get some sunshine. In our new kitchen, I have factored in one corner for a comfortable accent chair that will add a little softness to our industrial modern style, add that much needed burst of colour and finally give me that place to sit I've been craving.

I see myself sat there with my laptop working, having a drink in the sunshine or warming up with a hot chocolate in winter. Having just this one simple new addition will make the room even more usable for me, I can't wait to get it all in place.

I thought I'd share some of my favourites in stores right now that would do just the job. Now just to choose which one will work best, which is less likely to get destroyed by cats and which will work within budget. My favourite colours are blues and mustard, to add a pop to our monotone kitchen and warm wood floors.

I love all these chairs for different reasons and I can see them all fitting one way or another. I'm steering towards 1,2 and 9 as I think they'd be easy to keep clean with pets and kids around and could always have a cushion added for extra colour/texture/comfort.

Which would you choose?
