As adults, we try our best to keep healthy but there are always areas that get neglected. We tend to focus more on weight, skin care and things like our heart health, but often neglect our eyes which is crazy when it's so so easy to keep them healthy.
If you want to keep your 20/20 vision throughout your lifetime, make sure that you think about looking after your eyes as much as you can. There are many different things that can affect your eyesight, but with these easy tips you can make sure to keep clear vision throughout your whole life.
Clean your makeup applicators
One of the things we often ignore when performing our beauty routine every day is the makeup applicators we used around the eyes. The mascara wand, eyeliner and eyeshadow brushes we use will fill up with bacteria after a while and if we don’t clean or replace them regularly they can cause issues around the eye. You could end up with a stye, an infection, and you could even end up needing someone like Glasses 2 You if you aren’t careful. Always replace your mascara wand after a few months and try to wash your makeup brushes once a month or so.
Eat the sun
Not literally, of course, but you may have heard that many healthy people eat the rainbow for maximum nutrients: so to eat the sun you should ingest lots of yellow and orange foods. Think about carrots, onion, eggs, bell peppers and corn. All of these foods contain carotenoids which are essential for our retina and therefore incredibly important to eat. By making sure you eat at least one portion of healthy yellow food each day you will be able to stay much healthier and maintain great eyesight.
Get outdoors
There is nothing better than a blue sky and a clear day to make you feel happy and relaxed. It can also be a huge help to our eyesight because it gets us away from the TV and the phone screens we constantly use indoors. By getting outside and spending time away from screens you will see a huge difference in your eyesight in total, and you will be able to maintain great eyesight for longer.
Take breaks
If you work in an office and you are sitting in front of a computer screen all day long, your eyes will have to strain much more to concentrate and this can cause you to develop short-sightedness. Every 30 minutes or so make sure to look away from the computer and focus your eyes on something else in the room for at least 1 minute. This will help your eyes adjust and it will help them to stay strong.
Wear protection
Always wear sunglasses on a bright day, always wear goggles when swimming in the sea or a pool, and always make sure you wear protective glasses when riding a bike. This will help to prevent the eyes being exposed to light, to chemicals and to debris. Make sure that you always take the time to put on eye protection before you do anything strenuous because our eyes are very sensitive and if they aren’t protected they could become scratched or infected. Be on the safe side and just keep some glasses with you at all times.
It's so easy to make a few changes to keep our eyes healthier for longer. If you're guilty of neglecting yours, then see if you can just adjust your lifestyle slightly to keep your eyes in tip top condition.
