I was really lucky recently to be given a trial subscription from the lovely people at 'Mummy Workouts'. The clue is in the name, but if you haven't heard of them - they are basically an online workout site - perfect for busy mums to fit a workout in their hectic day, without leaving the house - no excuses now! Mummy Workouts have also kindly offered to give one lucky reader a competition prize of a free 4 month membership and consultation too, how cool is that?
For me, these workout sessions bridge the gap between going out to a gym or class (something I don't have the time or money for) and doing a DVD at home. Doing the same DVD over and over is so dull and I know if I signed up at a gym for classes, that nine times out of ten I would probably make my excuses not to attend. 30 minutes before dinner though, after the kids are in bed - who hasn't got time for that?
I was really excited to start the classes as I just think they are such a good idea, I love the concept and the cost is really reasonable I think - £12 per month (if you pay monthly), it's about £5 for a single class at my local gym. It felt a bit bizarre logging on and watching a beautiful toned blonde get ready for our workout (I just pretended it was a mirror lol) - but it was really good! The classes feel a lot more engaging than watching a workout DVD and you have the option to switch your web cam on or off as well as your microphone. I opted for web cam 'off', but I did have the microphone on so I could say hello. My husband found this highly amusing - making fart noises in the background (thanks a bunch) as well as my cat who could probably be heard squawking in the background - I live in a mad house! The only downside I could see was that as the website is pretty new, the class times are a little limited. I work a couple of evenings so it restricted the classes I could attend live. You can however catch up with recorded workouts and there was still at least two per week I could easily attend, so well worth it for the small subscription fee!
When you visit the site it is very easy to navigate and within a few clicks you are at your live class. Nobody can see you so you are free to be horrendously out of sync like me and get very sweaty without a care in the world, if only the gym felt like that! If you visit the website now you can even try 7 days for free, so if you aren't lucky enough to win this prize, you still get a little Brucey bonus just for reading!

I haven't worked out for nearly five years so I did struggle in parts of my 'Full Body Workout' classes, especially with the squats - which are surely something thought up by the devil? The instructor was really happy, lovely and motivating and did give alternative modifications to make things a little easier for those of us that aren't so fit (yet) which really helped. I had the benefit of feeling like part of a class and having some escapism, with the added bonus that I could run and feed baby or rescue the dog from the neighbours cat (and other such nonsense that I have to deal with) if need be. Within 40 minutes of the kids being in bed I had completed a full body work out, something I never thought I would say!
